The Eurotherm Seminar No. 110 will take place at Hotel Vila Galé in Cascais. Cascais is a village on the coast, located to the west of the Tagus estuary, between Sintra and the Atlantic Ocean, at a distance of about 30 km from Lisbon. It is a popular touristic destination, with a blend of beaches, museums and historical palaces. Human settlement in the area that is today the municipality of Cascais goes back to the Lower Palaeolithic period. It was occupied by Romans and Arabs, and in the second half of the 12th century, Cascais was a small village of fishermen and farmers. An important development occurred in the initial period of the Discoveries in the 15th century. About 150 years ago, Cascais witnessed a decisive turning point in its history, when the Portuguese King chose it as his holiday resort. Presently, Cascais continues to maintain this vocation of a welcoming space, guiding its tourism and cultural activity by the quality criteria required by its visitors.
